Micaiah Shaber

Our featured athlete for April is Micaiah Shaber. He is a rising junior and he plays football for Starr’s Mill High School.

The Numbers:

40 Yard Dash: 5.78 to 5.26 seconds

Vertical Jump: 3 inch improvement

Broad Jump: 8 feet three inches to 9 feet

5-10-5 Agility: 5.78 seconds to 4.68 seconds

Hang Clean: 185 pounds to 265 pounds

From Coach Lane:

I chose Micaiah to be our featured athlete because he is a diligent worker.  He just has an “attack mode” mentality.  Whatever is asked of him or whatever he sets his mind to, he does it.  I like coaching him because he isn’t afraid to fail.  Many kids play it too safe and they won’t attempt things because they are afraid to miss.  When he’s working on his hang cleans, he will attack the bar and attempt things other kids may not.  He has incredible manners and is a respectful young man.  In addition to improving his numbers across the board, he’s paid attention to his nutrition.  He has put on about 25 pounds.  You can tell that he trusts the process and the program and he wants to improve.  In August when football starts you will be able to tell who has trained and who hasn’t – he will shine on the field.  I worry for those that he meets on the field – he will crush them.

From Micaiah:

What do you enjoy the most about training at goperformance? It is a great atmosphere with personalized training that works for me.

What improvements have you noticed since training here? I have gotten faster and more explosive. My athletic abilities have improved.

What are your performance goals for the next 3 months? My focus is speed, strength, and agility.

Describe the training at goperformance. It is a great atmosphere with awesome facilities that allow us to make gains and get better.

What are most proud of since training at goperformance? My 40-yard-dash time has dropped and my overall increase in athletic ability.

How does training with your teammates help you? We push ourselves to make our goals and the friendly competition helps us to be the best we can be.

What position do you play? Defensive Line

From Michelle, his mom:

Why did you choose goperformance for his training? I was looking for specific things such as 1) Experience and professional credibility 2) A professional that works with the football coaches to supplement their high school program 3) A clean gym with a positive, encouraging culture. This was important to me since I knew my son would be spending a lot of time onsite.

What improvements have you noticed since he’s been training? Micaiah’s metrics improved on everything we have been measuring – strength, speed, and agility. He has made these gains in three months. Micaiah will be entering his Junior football season with even more advantage as a result.

He gets to train with his teammates from Starr’s Mill.  How do you think that has helped him stay focused and continue to improve? On-field team dynamics are built off the field. The SMHS football team already has a great culture of encouragement and expectations. The group class brings this mindset to the gym where the players continue personal accountability for the team’s success.

Anything else you want to add? Goperformance and fitness has genuinely surpassed my expectations. My son is receiving individualized training beyond the scope of any membership packages. He is encouraged, pushed, and challenged at every session — and he can’t wait to go back for more. Micaiah’s measurements indicate the investment is paying off. He is getting faster and stronger.
