Curved Treadmills

Sep 27, 2022

We recently added three curved treadmills to our facility. These treadmills prevent injury, improve mechanics, increase speed and burn more calories than traditional treadmills. Coach Lane breaks it down here:

There are several reasons that we purchased these curved self-propelled treadmills. First, the curved treadmill helps prevent injury. Usually runners are “heel strikers” meaning the runner gets a force back from the ground acting like “brakes”. This usually means plantar fasciitis, knee issues and low back pain. The curved treadmills prevent injury by helping to improve mechanics and efficiency. The curved treadmills allow the body to strike the treadmill on the ball of the foot versus the heel. Additionally, this provides the opportunity for more of a “knee punch” meaning more force into the ground/treadmill. This machine is essentially “self correcting” meaning if the runner has too much back side mechanics the runner will slow down and the runner will feel as if they are falling forward. The runner can correct their mechanics while using the treadmill. These treadmills have no max on speed – the only limit is you! The treadmills allow you to train at a higher stride frequency which equals improving speed. Lastly, these increase the calories burned while using the machine. There is a 30% more calorie expenditure versus using a traditional treadmill.
